If you’re looking for some advice on how to replace car tires, this is your one-stop guide. When replacing tires, there are just a few pointers to remember.

Never Combine Tire Types On The Same Vehicle

You CAN use different tire types on the same vehicle but it’s just better not to. If you want top performance, the same kind of tires should be employed on all four wheel positions. Different tire types and their different constructions, sizes, and phases of wear may have a negative effect on car stability and handling. These apply unless you own a car that are purposefully fitted with tires of varied sizes.

Replacing With Tires Of Different Speed Ratings

If tires of various speed ratings are employed in a car, the lower speed rated tires should be positioned in the front axle no matter which axle is driven.

How To Replace Car Tires If You Only Purchase Two

In this case always make sure to have the new tires fitted on your car’s rear axle. There are some good reasons for this. First, when new tires are fitted on the rear, this assists in minimizing the tendency for your car to hydroplane or fishtail in wet conditions. The new tires will present better grip on wet surfaces compared to your old tires.

Replacing Old Tires With Lower Speed-rated Ones

When replacing speed-rated tires, you should employ replacement tires with ratings that are the same as or more than those of the older equipment tires that you had. This is if you wish to maintain the speed capability of the car.

These are the basic tips on how to replace car tires. Hopefully this will help you in your future tire replacements.

After your car has been in operation for several years, you can expect it to show some signs of wear, that will require certain parts to be replaced once in a while, even if you have been vigilant in having your car serviced at appropriate intervals. You will likely find, that your vehicle’s transmission, suspension, axles, lights, brakes, transmission, and tires are the parts of your car that will be under the most pressure. Because of this, these will be the first parts of your vehicle that will become worn, or malfunction. Of these heavily stressed parts, it is the tires that will take the biggest beating.

Your car tires can be greatly influenced by the kinds of roads you drive on, the years of usage, the driving conditions, weather changes, vehicle dynamics, and failure to properly maintain your tires.

Proper maintenance of your car tires cannot be overstated, as lack of proper maintenance and care, will inhibit them from functioning correctly, putting you, your passengers, and other drivers on the road, at risk.

This is not a reason to get hysterical. There are some basic rules that you can follow, to maintain the superior condition of your car tires over time.

Ensure correct tire inflation – Verify that you are keeping your vehicle’s tire pressure between the suggested levels. Diminished traction, uneven wear, jeopardized steering control, and reduced fuel economy are common symptoms of over-inflation or under-inflation.

Monitor your tires’ wear – A primary element in many auto accidents is a worn out tire. In order to determine when vehicle tires should be replaced, it is important to check their wear regularly. There is evidence that you will avoid much difficulty through continuous observation of your tires’ wear.

Rotate Tires Regularly – All tires will wear out at some point, but you can prolong your tires’ life through the use of several procedures. Worldwide, service manuals explain that tire rotation is one method of prolonging the life of your tires.

You can do your part to extend your vehicle’s tire life and delay replacement, by practicing these proven techniques. Not only will you extend your tires’ life, but you will also feel secure in the knowledge, that your tires are well prepared to carry out their job.

Nobody wants to learn the language of tires, except mechanics. That’s what we pay them to do, get their fingers greasy and fix our cars. When I say we, I mean, your average person. But, could it be that there is something that anybody can learn that would really help them out when they’re looking for tires? Maybe there is a bit of knowledge that can be gleaned from something we look at all the time. I know I learned something.

Normal people, it seems, or at least people like me, just look at the label on the side of the tires already on their cars when they need new tires. I always did so anyway. Then you can compare this name with other tires in the price range and make your choice. It seems simple. But is it wise? If you really know nothing about tires, don’t understand what the label on the side of your existing tires says, then you would never know, would you? I didn’t. In fact, a whole array of available choices in tires is out there, and it’s up to you to pick the right one.

If you look at an average tire label, it will read something like this “P175/50R 14 80Z”. This little series of letters packs quite a lot of information, if you know what you need to do to unpack it. But if you’re clueless, like I was, then it is useless to you. If you are without a clue with regards to understanding tire sizes, then the information that follows will help you.

On any tire label, the first letter tells what sort of vehicle should be using the tire. In our label above, the tire is intended for a passenger car. It breaks down as follows. P is for passenger cars, LT is for light trucks, and T is used to designate your spare, or temporary, tire. The number that immediately follows the first letter is the width of the tire in millimeters. 175, then, means that our example tire is 175 millimeters wide.

After the first number in the label comes a slash and then a second number. This second number tells us the ratio of the height and the width. Our tire has a height which is 50% of the width. It is a general rule of thumb that tires with a lower ratio of height to width are performance tires.

The letter following the ratio of height to width tells us the type of the tire. In our example, the R stands for radial.

Following the type indicator comes the number telling you how much a tire can carry, its load index. In our tire, it is 80. Consulting the Maximum Load-Carrying Capacity chart for this number, as it is indicated on your tire, will tell you exactly how much four tires of the same capacity can safely carry.

The last sign on the label tells you how fast the tire is rated for. Our example tire has a rating of Z, which means that it is rated for speeds of over 150 mph. It’s quite a speedster! The other ratings are S, for up to 112 mph, H, for up to 130, and V, for up to 150 mph. It is imperative that your follow these guidelines and not go faster than your tires are rated, because as you increase your speed, you increase friction. Friction heats up your tires, and as you tires get over heated, their treads can come unglued from their belts, which is never a good position to find yourself in. Speed ratings let you know exactly how fast you can go and not risk your life.

These signs are the most basic things that you need to know about what tires will fit on your car. And see, even you, a normal person, could pick them up. So put them to use!

There are other things to consider when you are choosing tires, such as mileage and weather conditions. Don’t hesitate to ask your dealer about anything in particular you need of your tires, or come across a label sign you don’t understand. They will inform you of what you can get or teach you the new term.

Your car will definitely experience some wear and tear after a few years on the road and even timely servicing may not prevent the occasional requirement for a part replacement. Among all the parts of a car, the ones that face the most stress are the engine, transmission, axles, suspension, brakes, lights and tires. With continuous stress these parts are most likely to break down or wear out. Even among these parts, the ones that experience the most wear and tear are the tires.

Changes in weather and driving conditions, types of roads, vehicle dynamics, and years of usage along with lack of maintenance can affect the condition of your car tires to a substantial extent.

The effects of these factors can lead to deterioration of tire-material and loss of tire-tread that may result in tire-skidding and possibly accidents or car crashes.

It is imperative that car tires receive utmost care and maintenance because if they are not in a condition to do their job properly, there is a serious threat to the safety of the vehicle along with its occupants and other entities on the road.

But there is no need to panic. We can ensure that our car tires remain in a fighting-fit condition for years by following these simple guidelines.

Maintain proper tire pressure – Always make sure the air pressure in your car tires is maintained between recommended levels. Under-inflation as well as over-inflation of tires can induce uneven wear and tear in tires, reduced traction, decreased fuel economy and compromised steering control.

Keep a check on the wearing process – A worn out tire is the main ingredient in the recipe for road accidents. Monitor the wearing process of your car tires to know exactly when you need to replace them. It is a proven fact that constant monitoring of the condition of tires can save you from a lot of hassle.

You should identify the pattern of tire wear and try to gauge the decrease in the depth of the treads. Most tires have wear-out indicators called “wear-bars” around the circumference in the form of rubber marks between treads. If the depth of the treads matches that of the wear-bars, you definitely need to replace the tire. If you can’t locate the wear-bar, you can also use a tread measuring device (available with most car-spares sellers).

The measuring device needs to be placed between the treads. If the reading is around 2/32 of an inch, you definitely need a tire replacement. Under extreme driving conditions, you might want to replace your car tires before a reading of 4/32 of an inch appears on the device.

Verify whether wheel alignment is needed – Proper alignment of your car wheels is aimed at distributing the weight of the vehicle evenly on all four wheels. In doing so, each wheel should maintain a constant angle with the road and with the axis of the opposite wheel. There should be no inward or outward tilt in the axis of the wheels. The purpose of wheel alignment is to reduce uneven tire wear, make sure the vehicle travels in a straight line without any sideways drag and improve steering control.

Along with uneven wear-out of tires, another prominent sign of misaligned wheels is a crooked steering wheel. If the steering-wheel in your car is tilted from the normal position when the car is traveling in a straight line, there is a wheel alignment problem in your car. Also, if your car tends to steer in either direction instead of traveling in a straight line, it is time for a wheel alignment.

Timely alignment of wheels can save the tires from uneven wear out and at the same time save you from a lot of hassle on the road and off it.

Practice Tire Rotation – There is no doubt that the tires in your car will eventually wear out but with certain techniques, you can definitely prolong their life-span. Tire rotation is one such effective technique mentioned in most service manuals across the globe.

The four tires of the car need to be periodically rotated in a manner that each tire is moved from its current position and mounted at the opposite end in a crisscross manner. Hence, the driver’s side front-wheel is fitted in place of passenger’s side rear-wheel. This way, tires wear out evenly and hence last longer.

By following these simple guidelines, you can maximize the lifespan of your car tires and definitely avoid a replacement tire for a long time. This way you also make sure that you are safe on the road knowing your car tires will do their job effectively.

All of us know what a car tire is. Car owners may know how to maintain tires for optimum usability and safety. Yet when the tires are already worn out and were already replaced, what most people usually do is stock them in vacant areas and become breeding grounds for viruses and vermin. If they know that scrap tires can be brought back to where they were manufactured, the amount of generated waste products may be lessened.

Tires are made of rubber, that’s what most of us know. Yet tires are made not just of rubber but as much as 200 various raw materials are combined and used in order to create one distinctly blended engineering, physics and chemistry concept that will provide consumers with the best possible level of efficiency, reliability, performance, comfort, safety, creativity and technology.

The first step in making tires is designing and planning. This step is necessary to make tires that will match the performance requirements of the makers of the vehicles and the stresses which the vehicles may encounter. Using the computer, the mathematical representations and values of the requirements of the vehicle maker are converted into specifications that are easier to apply and follow in the manufacturing process. After the design has been completed, a prototype is first made for testing. If there are any flaws observed during the testing, the design will be modified. In general, custom-designed tires take months to finish, including the quality checks, inspection and testing. The vehicle maker will order the tires to be mass produced if the design has been approved.

To meet the exact characteristics of the design, appropriate materials consisting of rubber, carbon black, pigments, antioxidants, special oils, silica and more additives are selected. Tires are composed of different parts and each part is made of discrete compounds. The collected raw materials for each compound are combined in a machine called banbury mixer to produce a homogeneous black material of consistency similar to gum. Uniformity is achieved in the banbury mixer because it is controlled by a computer. The homogeneous material is then further processed in different machines to produce the tread, sidewalls and other tire parts.

When the parts have been made, they are then assembled to make the final tire product. The inner liner is the first tire component that goes into the machine that builds the tire. The inner liner is air and moisture resistant that is made of special rubber. The belts and body plies made of steel and polyester are placed into the machine next. These components strengthen the tire and make it flexible. The tire engineer will specify certain angles and cuts for riding and handling characteristics that are obtained using the belts.

The sidewall of tire has a bead formed by implanting two hoops made of steel wire strands coated with bronze. The bead will ensure the tire to have excellent fit with the wheel rim. Sidewalls and tread are then positioned next onto the plies and belts. Lastly, the tire is then cured by placing it in a mold. The tire is inflated so it presses against the mold to emboss the information required to be seen on the tire’s sidewall. Furthermore it is heated at a temperature above 300°F for up to 15 minutes then vulcanized for rubber curing and components bonding.

Do you know most of the car accidents are caused because of one or the other fault in the car tires? Most of the car accident reimbursement that the car owners have to pay to the accident victims or the loss they have to incur in terms of insurance money they get is all due to fault in car tires. So, when you go out to buy a car then with all the factors like performance, brand, price, appearance, comfort, and maybe even safety, do consider the performance and integrity of the car tires as well. Even if you own a pre-owned car do make sure that your car tires are in good condition and match your car type, the kind of use it is put to and the geographical demand of the area where you live.

Reliable Tires

Remember different kinds of vehicle require different kinds of tires. So, you must do some research on your car type and its matching tire type. Do not trust the previous owner if you are buying a used car. Make sure it has compatible car tires. Tires are good for varying conditions, last for varying lengths of time, and cost varying amounts to replace. You must know what type of car tires would work the best in your area. Conditions such as extreme heat, frequent rain or snow, or heavy winter weather are some to consider when you are looking to purchase tires, or to purchase a vehicle with its unique tire needs.

Savings

Buying the appropriate tires for your car ensures lowered risk of mishap thus, lower insurance premium. Again for special usage cars such as racecars you can get a good insurance premium value if you make sure you use tires specifically made for such cars. High performance tires may cost more than the normal tires but using them saves a lot of money. Driving on tires with worn-out tread can be extremely dangerous, especially in severe weather conditions. If any accident is caused in such conditions you will not only loose money in insurance but also have pay from your pocket to reimburse for the damage caused by your car and to your car. Different vehicles need different tires and also come with different insurance rates charged by different companies that insure you and your vehicle under different amounts. Thus, make sure your car tires are safe so that you are saved from insurance hassles later on.

Your car tire is one of the things that can provide you with a great riding experience. Even the most expensive and stylish cars are nothing without a good set of tires. If you want to personally shop for your tires, here are some important pieces of information that you should never neglect.

Size Matters

Different tires don’t just have different brands. They also come in different sizes. Your car tires should always fit the type of vehicle you are driving. Examples of various types of tires for vehicles are passenger and light truck type tires. If you get a smaller size than is appropriate, you could endanger yourself or end up paying more for tire maintenance.

You would know your tire size by looking for it in your car manual or on the sidewall of your tires. The sidewall print also contains other pieces of important tire information. If you are not sure how to interpret the sidewall letters and numbers, you may want to consult a tire and car website for proper interpretation. Some sites will simply let you enter information on your car’s model and make so you can get your tire size information.

Rims Should Match

Aside from the size, you should also have the appropriate rims for your tires. The rims give your tires the right support. Getting the wrong rim for your car tire may result in too much tension on your tires. This could damage your tires sooner than they should be. If you want to customize your wheels, make sure you consult experts who know which tires fit with which rims.

Many Different Tires

There are various options for car tires. You can have tires for the winter and summer. Tires are also categorized according to type of vehicle. Passenger tires have different dimensions from those used in vans and SUVs.

One other category of tires is according to use. Each driver may have very specific driving styles. Some may also drive more often in rough terrain than others or may need their vehicles for frequent transport of heavy load. There are specific tires depending on your intended use and the way you use your tires.

Tires Don’t Last Forever

Regardless of the tire brand and how carefully you take care of your tires, they will not last for a lifetime. Part of keeping yourself safe on the road is to know exactly when your tires should be changed. You can follow manual suggestions for when tires should be changed. You should however also manually check your tires. Look for leaks, tears, wear and bumps on the rubber of your tires.

You Shouldn’t Guess

If you aren’t sure about anything about your tires, then you shouldn’t make guesses. You could put your life in danger. If you need any help with tire information or tire changes, you should ask a qualified tire dealer.

Never underestimate the value of getting the right car tire. Save on money and effort by asking experts to help you get your tires.

Like the majority of women I don’t actually know all the parts of a car and how do they work; I only know how to drive a car, but I don’t really know how to care about a car.

I bought my car two months ago and I decided that I have to learn more information about car, its spare parts, principles of work and how I should care about it if I want my car to serve me devotedly for many years.

I came to conclusion that it’s better to start with such parts of my car that are visible, for instance tires.

I turned for help to my cousin who works with cars and knows them better than any of my friends or acquaintances.

He started his small lecture with words that tires should correspond to your auto and vehicle operation in order to provide high steerability, resistance and passability.

There are several types of tires:

- Winter tires are used on ice-covered and snow-covered roads, when it’s below zero. These tires have good road characteristics; many winter tires have tire studs or give an opportunity to mount them.

- Summer tires are designed to be used on highways when there are high temperatures. Tires of such kind provide the best road adherence in dry or rainy weather, have maximum endurance and are perfectly adapted to high-speed driving. But they can hardly be used in winter.

- And there are special tires called all-season tires. As it’s seen from their name they can be used in summer as well as in winter. But these tires are a compromise variant between winter and summer tires, that’s why they are worse than both tires mentioned before in road adherence in winter and summer. And my cousin doesn’t advice to use them; he says that it’s better not to save money on tires.

There are also all-surface and mud-and-snow tires, but my cousin said that this is not the best variant for my car. He advised me to look through discount Sumitomo tires because he is of high opinion of these tires. I haven’t looked through this site yet as my tires are still OK, but when I need it I think I’ll use services of this online store.

On any car, the tires are vital for safety. Most drivers, however, do not put much effort into maintaining them. No matter how safe car companies try to make their vehicles, driving on poorly maintained tires can negate the effectiveness of features such as anti-lock brakes or computer assisted suspensions. The following tips should help you keep your tires maintained at a safe level.

Under inflated tires reduce fuel efficiency and increase the chances of failure. Keep a digital gauge in your glove compartment and check your air pressure regularly. Tires become deflated over time so make a habit of checking once a month and before long drives. Compare the pressure to the recommended pressure from your car’s owner’s manual. Check pressure only after the car has been sitting for a few hours to eliminate inaccuracies caused by tires that are warm from driving. Remember to check your spare as well.

Check your tire treads and visually inspect your tires for damage. A quick and simple way to assess your treads is with the so called “penny test.” Insert a penny upside down between the treads. If you can see Lincoln’s head, it is probably time to replace your tires. Check for uneven wearing as well. If you notice that your tires are not wearing evenly, it could be an indication that your car is not properly aligned. Poor alignment can cause handling and performance problems and also speeds up the demise of your tires. Get your alignment check if your tires are showing uneven wear patterns. Check the sidewalls for bulges, cuts or cracks. Any damage you discover may mean you need new tires.

If you do discover problems such as under inflation, a missing spare, worn out treads, damage, or uneven wear take action to remedy the issue as soon as possible. Driving on bald or damaged tires puts you at serious risk for a blowout or an accident. Depending on the problem, you may need a fairly simple and relatively inexpensive maintenance procedure like balancing or your issue may require a full replacement. No one really enjoys buying a new set of tires and the unexpected expense can be a hassle, but in order to keep your car safe you may have little choice. Monitor the health of your tires and take action if necessary for the sake of safety.

Your tires are the only point of contact between your car and the road. As such, it is crucial that you make an effort to ensure that your tires are in proper condition. For safety purposes, check your tires regularly and immediately address any problems you discover.

Despite the best efforts of modern science, your car tires rarely last as long as you keep your car. At some time, they will wear out or become damaged and you will have to replace them. Many years ago, most people changed their own tires. Back then, old tires were a recycling nightmare. They were almost universally banned from city dumps and landfills. Having no other options available many people would simply chuck their old tires into a roadside ditch at night when no one was looking. Those few companies that were willing to take your old tires often would end up burning them. Burning tires, however, is an environmental disaster in almost every sense of the word. Arsenic, mercury, cadmium, lead, beryllium, chromium and other toxic and carcinogenic substances and dioxins are released into the air when a car tire is burned. Cardiac disease and respiratory problems can be caused by the metal particles released from a burning tire as well. Plus the natural resources that go into making a tire go to waste if the tire is burned.

Today all of that has changed. It had to change there really were no other options. It is estimated that 1.3 billion tires are sold every year and more than two thirds of those tires replace old worn out tires. That means that almost 1 billion tires worldwide are discarded annually. 20 years ago only 10 percent of all discarded tires were recycled but today more than 80 percent make it to a recycling facility. Recycling the material in old tires is a good idea no matter how you look at it and literally 100s of applications have been developed for recycling old car tires.

Almost no one changes their own tires anymore and the recycling of old tires is done by professionals who generally do so in an environmentally safe way. When you take your car in to have the tires changed at the local garage or tire shop there is almost always provision for taking your old tires for recycling. Approximately 1 in 4 of those old tires is retreaded and used again on another automobile somewhere. In many parts of the world old tires are ground up and used to make rubberized asphalt for highways or shredded and used as a base for gravel roads or as a sand or gravel substitute in some other road construction application. Some old tires are chopped up and used as part of the surface for indoor tennis courts or other indoor sports playing fields. For many applications, recycling old tire rubber is cheaper than collecting and processing new rubber.

The burning of tires has not completely disappeared but it has improved to the point where it is both environmentally safe and it recycles the raw materials. By using a process called pyrolysis, which burns the tires in a reduced air environment or vacuum, the raw materials are recovered and recycled. A typical car passenger tire will yield one kilogram of steel, four liters of oil, almost four kilograms of carbon and 850 liters of reusable combustible gas as a result of this recycling process.
